So what does a Senior Environmental Planner at Michael Baker International do?
Michael Baker is seeking a seasoned CEQA practitioner to draft environmental analyses and to manage or assist with environmental planning projects of varying complexity in northern California. Responsibilities include: lead planner on environmental documents (initial studies, environmental impact reports, etc.), task manager on large or very complex projects, project manager on smaller projects, and a variety of scheduling, billing, and other tasks for the team. Some work on small proposals with senior support, and possibility of supervising junior staff. We are seeking candidates with 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience on CEQA projects. The ideal candidate will be capable of working with the team and able to work on multiple projects. Strong writing skills are a must.
Can you walk me through a typical day of a Senior Environmental Planner?
•The best part of being a Senior Environmental Planner at Michael Baker is that no two days will be the same. You will face different challenges every day as you manage and/or assist with complex environmental planning efforts.
•You will work on a variety of projects – infill housing, mixed use, school expansions, specific plan EIRs, infrastructure, and others.
•Managing and preparing all sorts of CEQA/NEPA documents for clients specifically in the San Francisco Bay area.
•Team coordination, some business development pursuits and working both with our local professionals and the other offices of Michael Baker International are all in a day’s work.

Could you be the Senior Environmental Planner we are looking for?
•You’ll need a minimum of Bachelor Degree in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, Biology, Urban Planning, Ecology or a related field, a Master’s degree is desirable, and a minimum of 5 years of experience, ideally, but not necessarily, including technical analysis experience in CEQA and/or NEPA document preparation.
•To be successful, you’ll need to be bright, organized, and determined; you’ll also need to be able to build relationships with a wide variety of people.
•Of course, you’ll have excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams.
•A desire to produce first-class work products is essential; you’ll need a demonstrated personal commitment to accuracy and quality.
•You’ll need to be able to quickly get up to speed on our policy, procedures and relevant software while acquiring an understanding of the company’s service offerings, and the standards relevant to your projects.
•You’ll need to have a sense of humor. Sometimes things go sideways, but there is always someone there to help put things right.
