Northern Section Energy Initiative

The APA California Northern Section Energy Initiative is a collective of planners, designers, and others with an interest in the intersection between the spaces we inhabit and the ever-shifting sources of the energy we consume.

The initiative launched in February 2012 with the objective of providing a forum for discussion, investigation, and contribution to the advancement of collective knowledge of the planning and design professional fields in the area of energy. Underlying this is the premise that patterns of urbanization, increased energy demand, regulatory changes, and the need for infrastructure upgrades will lead to power-generating facilities being more frequently sited within existing and proposed populated areas.

This will create a unique set of opportunities and challenges for communities, a scenario for which planners and designers are uniquely prepared to respond. The initiative strives to increase our collective preparedness.
