Caltrans District 4 is seeking a Transportation Planner/Associate Transportation Planner to be a valued team member of the Local Development – Intergovernmental Review Branch (LD-IGR). Final Filing Date is October 17, 2019.
The LD-IGR Branch plays a key role in helping California achieve mandated reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by implementing legislation requiring reductions in Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT). We review local development projects from cities, counties and special districts throughout the Bay Area’s nine counties with a primary focus on reducing VMT. We help Caltrans achieve its Strategic Management Plan objectives of increasing non-auto mode shares and advance California Transportation Plan goals of providing multimodal accessibility for all people while supporting a vibrant economy and improving public safety. LD-IGR planners promote transportation choices by applying Caltrans’ Smart Mobility Framework in our review of CEQA and NEPA documents.
Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work within a team of staff planners that provides input on environmental and technical documents for local development projects. This is done in coordination with a multi-disciplinary team of experts to advocate for mitigation such as transportation impact fees, Transportation Demand Management programs, and enhancing transit, bicycling and walking options.
The candidate must have taken the online Transportation Planner (Exam Code 1PBC1) or the Associate Transportation Planner (Exam Code 7TR53) exam to meet the minimum qualifications. Applicants who have not already taken and passed the exam should do so prior to or as soon as possible after applying, as the candidate must score highly enough on the exam to be eligible to be placed in this position.
