City of Albany – Assistant Planner

The City of Albany is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Planner in our Community Development Department. This position will be assigned to Transportation & Sustainability duties. Under supervision, this position performs a variety of professional and technical functions in the development, administration, and enforcement of the City’s current and strategic plans, land use, environmental management, and zoning ordinances, and other related community development projects, programs, and activities.

Minimum Requirements:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning, environmental planning, environmental studies/sciences, transportation planning, architecture, landscape architecture, natural resources, economic development, or a related field, and one year of technical working experience in urban planning or environmental resource management.

Ideal Candidate

  • Possesses experience through internships and/or employment working in a local government setting in California
  • Is able to demonstrate excellent research capabilities, writing skills, and experience making public presentations in the subject areas of municipal government sustainability programs and/or transportation planning
  • Demonstrates an interest and enthusiasm for a wide range of municipal government planning topics.
