The City’s Land Use Division within the Planning & Development Department, currently has a new and rewarding full-time, temporary opportunity for a Planning Technician! The duration of this opportunity is not-to-exceed two (2) years.
Land Use Planning is responsible for preparing long-range policy plans for the future development of Berkeley and managing the regulation of proposed development projects under the Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance. The Division is staff to several Council-appointed commissions and boards, including the Planning Commission, which advises the Council on planning policy; the Zoning Adjustment Board, which reviews most proposed development projects; and the Landmarks Preservation Commission, which identifies and protects the City’s historic and cultural heritage. It administers zoning regulations, reviews development projects, and reviews Land Use permits, and staffs various standing and temporary committees/task forces related to land use planning.
Education: Completion of two (2) years of college
Experience: Three (3) years of technical or office support experience with extensive public interaction providing information, and reviewing and processing documents. (Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in urban or transportation planning, architecture, construction management, engineering, public administration, or a closely related field can be substituted for the required experience).
