The City of Fort Bragg, California is seeking an experienced and motivated professional with proven ability to implement community and economic development programs for our Community Development Director position. It is an at-will executive management position. Fort Bragg is in Mendocino County, on the rugged and beautiful northern California coast. The City of approximately 7,300 also serves as the sub-regional center for over 15,000 coastal area residents. The City is poised for an exciting and challenging future as we continue forward with the redevelopment of the 425-acre ocean front property (roughly one-third of the City) which was formerly the Georgia-Pacific mill site.
The new Director should be a strong leader and excellent administrator who combines a solid foundation of technical skills with an innovative and collaborative approach to planning and development. A proven ability to create positive relationships and consensus by way of diplomacy, community outreach, and open communications is essential to this role. The position will require at least five years of progressive administrative management experience in planning, building and/or zoning operations and at least four years in a supervisory leadership role. A BS/BA in Planning or a related field is required with a Master’s degree and AICP certification preferred. Knowledge of planning, building/permitting, and other aspects of development and land use are essential for this assignment. Compensation rate is $95,202 to $115,710 annually with a comprehensive benefits package.
