County of Marin – Planner/Senior Planner

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Community Development Agency are announcing a recruitment for the position of Planner to join the Community and Long-Range Planning team of the Planning Division. The Marin County Community Development Agency joins together what is commonly known as Planning, Building and Environmental Health. The Community Planning section of the Planning Division maintains and updates the Countywide Plan, Community Plans, the Local Coastal Program and specialized land use studies.

There is one (1) full-time, vacancy in the Community Planning Program of the Planning Division which may be filled at either the Planner or Senior Planner level. This vacancy may be filled as either a two (2) year Fixed Term Senior Planner or as a Regular Hire Planner. To be considered for the Senior Planner position, you must submit a separate application to that recruitment.

Marin County is widely recognized as an award-winning leader in addressing the unprecedented challenges of sea level rise, achieved through creativity, innovation and an extraordinary collaboration with science, educational, engineering and advocacy organizations (see www.MarinSLR.org). The Planner will join a dynamic team responsible for developing, updating and implementing planning programs, including but not limited to, the Countywide Plan, Development Code and the Local Coastal Program and Local Hazard Mitigation Plan. This person will contribute to our team culture and the County as they analyze land use, environmental, economic and social data, legislation, policies and regulations, and the concerns and aspirations of the County’s citizens to prepare and recommend policies, regulations and programs that will shape the County’s future.

The Senior Planner will serve as a team leader and may act as a technical expert representing the County in meetings and presentations to community groups, governmental agencies and the general public. Additionally, the Senior Planner will develop new and innovative methods to engage the County’s citizens to best understand their concerns, and prepare and recommend policies, regulations and programs which address them.
