Marin County Parks – Regulatory Open Space Planner


Regulatory Open Space Planners at Marin County Parks are responsible for preparing CEQA documentation for important projects such as habitat restoration and road and trail improvement projects. We create, compile, review, synthesize, and prepare responses to formal public comments related to the department’s CEQA filings. We also support the senior planning staff in the following areas:

  • Preparing permit applications for departmental projects
  • Servicing permits in the post-implementation phase
  • Researching zoning and property boundary issues
  • Assisting in the resolution of encroachments
  • Explaining Marin County Parks policies and initiatives to the public

As a champion ambassador for our department’s mission and initiatives, they will need to have strong communications skills both verbally and in writing.

An outstanding Regulatory Open Space Planner will also have 3 years of experience in land use planning, CEQA review, and be well versed in the following areas:

  • Evaluating and making formal CEQA determinations
  • Formulating environmental review documents under CEQA and then crafting formal responses to public comments regarding those documents
  • Preparing permit documents
  • Working with and producing deliverables using ArcGIS, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Creating accessible print and web-based documents consistent with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • A strong understanding of ecological principals and the natural resources of Northern California
