Corte Madera is a Town of approximately 10,000 residents located in Marin County, California. Incorporated in 1916, the Town is bordered by Mt. Tamalpais on the west and the San Francisco Bay on the east. Despite its relatively small size, Corte Madera contains a variety of development patterns, including significant commercial retail and office centers, a historic town center, multi-family and mixed-use communities, hillside and bayfront single-family neighborhoods, large school campuses, parklands, and protected open spaces, and faces many of the complex regional land use issues affecting other Bay Area communities.
The Town of Corte Madera is seeking a talented professional to perform a wide variety of current and advanced planning work at the Assistant, Associate, or Senior Planner level. The employee will work directly with the Town’s Senior Planner and/or Planning Director in evaluating development proposals, providing policy analysis, crafting new land use regulations, and addressing neighborhood and community-wide issues. The employee will be expected to conduct independent research and application reviews, write thorough staff reports, make presentations to the general public, Planning Commission and Town Council, and possess excellent all around communication skills. A strong writer is highly desirable.
The Town encourages applicants at the Assistant Planner level who have the ability and desire to learn quickly and grow professionally within the Department and applicants at the Associate or Senior level who are motivated to advance their careers by working with minimal supervision on a broad range of planning activities. Candidates with a Master’s degree are highly desirable.
ASSISTANT PLANNER: Some professional urban planning experience desired; equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in land use planning or a related field.
ASSOCIATE PLANNER: Two (2) years of professional urban planning experience; equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in land use planning, public administration, or a related field.
