This session will showcase the newest addition to the Bay Area Greenprint, the 30×30 Module, a new functionality that identifies how an area or your project contributes to California’s 30×30 commitment. We’ll demonstrate how to use the module to highlight the many beneficiaries of your conservation project – including the ecosystem, economy, local and regional community – and understand how your project aligns with the key objectives for 30×30. We will also showcase TOGETHER Bay Area’s interactive map from 2022 of 110+ Ways to Advance 30×30 and Other State Goals.

Office to Housing Conversion: San Francisco Edition [In-Person Program]

4:00 to 5:30 p.m. | Wednesday, March 29, 2023 | SPUR Urban Center, San Francisco, CA
Fee: Free

Since the beginning of the pandemic, San Francisco’s Financial District and South of Market neighborhoods have struggled with the lack of workers returning to their offices on a regular basis. Many of the city’s buildings sit underused, or even empty, which is having a significant impact on the revitalization of SF’s downtown core. The widespread office vacancies, brought on by the unprecedented events of the last two years, present a unique opportunity for developers, owners, and city leaders in the Bay Area, and from across the United States, to rethink and reimagine the uses of many commercial building uses in downtowns.

Come hear about the findings and recommendations for regulatory changes and incentives that the city and state can provide to facilitate conversions and help to address the need for affordable and workforce housing in San Francisco.

Expanding Access: State Grant Programs for Seismic Retrofits

12:30 to 1:30 p.m. | Tuesday, April 4, 2023 | SPUR Digital Discourse
Fee: Free

Earthquakes in California can result in catastrophic damage, depending on where they occur. In the event of a magnitude 7.0 earthquake on the Hayward fault, building damage from shaking could displace 77,000 households. But the number could rise to 152,000 households when considering other factors such as utility outages and fires. By providing financial incentives for code-compliant retrofits of single-family dwellings, the California Earthquake Authority’s (CEA) Earthquake Brace + Bolt and Earthquake Soft-Story programs are helping to make California residential construction more resilient to catastrophic earthquakes. Join us for a discussion with Janiele Maffei, chief mitigation officer at CEA, to discuss how these programs reduce barriers to advancing seismic safety in California.

This event is part of: A BOLD FUTURE FOR EQUITABLE HOUSING IN CALIFORNIA: A SERIES OF EVENTS ON AFFORDABLE HOUSING SOLUTIONS
