Under the general direction of the Office Chief, a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Planner is responsible for providing experienced, authoritative, and professional management of the Railway-Highway Crossings Program (RHCP) within the Office of Federal Programs. The RHCP, often referred to as the “Section 130 program,” is jointly administered by the Division of Local Assistance (DLA) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and provides project federal funding to cities, counties, public and private railroads and Caltrans. The incumbent will work as a non-supervisory technical expert in overseeing the efficient administration of the RHCP with an emphasis on improving project delivery and the overall safety benefits for California roadways. The Senior Transportation Planner works with DLA in the district offices, other department functional units, local agencies, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), CPUC, private and public owned rail companies in the implementation of the RHCP. This position does not supervise.
