Northern’s Professional Development program hosted an online webinar, What’s New with ADUs, on September 24, 2026, from 12–1 p.m. Moderated by Aarti Shrivastava, AICP, Northern Director of Professional Development, the session featured Avery Stark, Planning Manager for the City of Richmond, and Drew Finke, Senior Associate in Urban Design at Opticos Design. The webinar examined how California’s expanded ADU laws are creating infill-housing opportunities and how local programs can make ADUs easier to understand, permit, build, and own. It highlighted Richmond’s work on outreach, homeowner guidebooks, pre-approved plans, zoning analysis, cost tools, and potential pathways for for-sale ADUs.
