The SF Urban Film Fest proudly presents its 10th anniversary film festival, Rooted Resurgence, April 15-21, 2024. The week-long festival events will take place in person throughout San Francisco across various venues, including the Tenderloin Museum, SF Port’s headquarters at Pier 1, and the newly reopened The STUD, the first worker-owned cooperative nightclub in the US.
The highlight this season is a celebration on opening night April 15th at OASIS nightclub, itself embodying the festival theme of Rooted Resurgence. From its start as a community pool in the 80’s, to its contemporary moment as a staple in San Francisco’s drag nightclub scene, Oasis has always stayed rooted in community throughout its many transformations.
The Rooted Resurgence festival programs aim to spark conversations about San Francisco’s burgeoning resurgence with an emphasis on community and equity. “Our 10th anniversary festival aims to uplift the folks who constantly rework and regenerate social and physical infrastructure with possibility and positivity,” says Fay Darmawi, SF Urban Film Fest’s Founder and Executive Director. As with each festival, the SF Urban Film Fest centers critical storytelling, collective creative production, and the seeding of solutions toward just and equitable cities.
