Save the Date: 2025 APA California Chapter Conference

By Conference Host Committee Co-Chairs Michael P. Cass; Florentina Craciun, AICP; and Afshan Haid, AICP; October 23, 2024

APA California — Northern is excited to host the 2025 APA California Chapter conference and is ramping up its conference planning. Next year’s conference will be held in beautiful coastal Monterey, California from September 28, 2025 through October 1, 2025.

We are excited to announce our conference theme – Waves of Change: Reconnecting Communities and share our official logo, designed with a vintage feel by lowercase productions. When selecting our theme, based on votes from Section members, we wanted to celebrate our conference location and its beautiful landscape. The theme is also intended to acknowledge how our communities, and interactions with our neighbors and priorities, may have changed. As planners, we aim to reconnect with our roots, our communities, and our practices.

If you are interested in getting involved or have a suggestion to make the conference a success, please contact us at conference@norcalapa.org.

About Monterey

About Monterey. Monterey is located in Monterey County on the southern portion of the APA California – Northern Section. Founded on June 3, 1770, Monterey was the second permanent settlement established by Spanish explorers in what is now California. It functioned as the capital of Alta California under both Spain and Mexico. Monterey hosted California’s first theater, public building, public library, publicly funded school, printing press, and newspaper.

Monterey has been home to multiple celebrated artists and authors; most notably to Robert Louis Stevenson and John Steinbeck. Monterey is known for Cannery Row, an eclectic collection of shops and restaurants; the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium; Fisherman’s Wharf; whale watching; and all kinds of aquatic activities.
