Want to get involved in helping to organize events and activities in one of these areas? The duties of the Regional Activity Coordinators are to serve as the principal link between Northern and individual members the area and ensure their specific needs are met by the Board; organize meetings and workshops for members; assist the Professional Development Director in carrying out Northern’s professional development programs; and host social functions in order to foster a sense of community and networking opportunities within and among members.

Current Board Vacancies

Regional Activity Coordinators (4 positions)

  • San Francisco Coordinator
  • Monterey Bay Coordinator
  • South Bay Co-Coordinator
  • East Bay Co-Coordinator

The RACs serve as the key connection between Northern and members in specific geographic areas. Their duties include addressing member needs, organizing regional meetings and workshops, supporting professional development programs, and hosting social events to build community and networking opportunities.

California Planning Foundation Liaison

The CPF Liaison’s responsibilities include coordinating with CPF and attending monthly meetings, promoting CPF Scholarships at Northern events and through communications, fundraising for these scholarships, and collaborating with the Events Program Manager or serving on the Holiday Party Committee to support fundraising efforts.

Diversity Co-Director

The Diversity Co-Director provides input to the Board related to the needs of Planners of Color, Students of Color, and marginalized communities within Northern’s service area, organizes educational meetings and workshops for members around the issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity, contributes articles and announcements on these topics to the Communications Team, maintains a Diversity Interest Group listserv, attends monthly meetings with other Diversity leads in the Chapter, and helps to shape the Diversity Summit at the annual conference.

Mid-Career Co-Director

The Mid-Career Co-Director works to organize and provide a forum for professionals with 10 to 25 years of experience working in a planning or planning-related field to cultivate professional growth through career building programs, social events, and mentoring opportunities and works closely with other Board Members to publicize and organize events.

Consulting Staff Position

Technology Director/Website Coordinator

This is a paid professional services position; you do not need to be a Chapter member.

The Technology Director maintains Northern’s technology needs, including managing Google Workspace, assigning and assisting with Board member emails, updating the website, coordinating with the Communications teams to keep all information current, assisting the Events Coordinators with the on-line calendar of events, maintaining other relevant Northern information, and working with technical consultants as needed.

For appointed positions, you must be an APA member with current/paid-up membership and reside or practice planning within Northern’s service area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, and Sonoma counties).
