Over a century ago, the United States experienced a profound re-shaping of street space, from a place for pedestrians to a place for motorized vehicles. Join historian Peter Norton and Vision Zero Network Executive Director Leah Shahum to learn how the history of the movement for pedestrians rights can inform current policy and advocacy efforts to win back street space for safe and convenient walking.

- Peter Norton, Associate Professor, Deparment of Engineering & Society, University of Virginia – Peter is Associate Professor of History in the Deparment of Engineering and Society at the University of Virginia. He is author of Fighting Traffic: The Dawn of the Mortor Age in the American City, and of Autonorama: The Illusory Promise of High-Tech Driving. He is a walker, a bike rider, and a frequent speaker on the past and future of urban mobility.
- Leah Shahum, Founder & Director of the Vision Zero Network — Leah is a founder and director of the Vision Zero Network, a nonprofit helping to advance Vision Zero — safe mobility for all — in commun ities across the U.S. As a German Marshal Fund Fellow, Shahum researched Vision Zero stategies in Sweden, German and the Netherlands. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of the 10,000-member San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and served as a policymaker on the Boards of Directors of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District.
