Description

To plan, organize, oversee process and directly participate in plans, applications, and studies related to special projects that are initiated by either private parties or the City; and to interpret planning and zoning requirements for the public and other departments.

Coastal planning experience and AICP are preferred.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Plan, organize and coordinate work relating to the processing of privately submitted land-use applications, and special planning studies and projects initiated by the City.

Pre-evaluate, accept, review, organize, schedule and process general plan, zoning, use permit, and site applications.

Provide technical advice to applicants, other departments and the general public pertaining to planning functions and regulations, land use and other zoning matters.

Coordinate and oversee special studies related to applications and projects such as land-use studies, environmental studies, general plan compliance reviews, and specific plans.

Attend Planning Commission meetings as required; make verbal presentations to the City Council and Planning Commission as required and as assigned.

Direct and participate in the preparation of complex reports.

Assist in the preparation and administration of the department budget.

Supervise and train assigned staff.

Perform related duties as required.
