The Nevada County Local Agency Formation Commission | LAFCo is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking Executive Officer to guide its mission of promoting efficient local government services, preserving open space, and fostering thoughtful community growth.

Local Agency Formation Commissions (LAFCos) are independent state-mandated agencies in every California county. They oversee the formation, expansion, and reorganization of cities and special districts, ensuring that public services are delivered effectively while protecting agricultural lands and preventing urban sprawl. LAFCos serve as a bridge between counties, cities, and special districts–bringing stakeholders together to solve complex regional service and land use challenges.

As Executive Officer, you will work with an engaged 11-member Commission, partner with diverse local governments and special districts, and lead high-profile initiatives such as fire district consolidations and a countywide municipal service review.

The ideal candidate is a diplomatic, self-directed leader who can build trust across agencies, navigate complex political landscapes, and represent the Commission with integrity. Experience in local government, regional planning, or public administration is highly desirable; direct LAFCo experience is a plus but not required.

Compensation: Salary $140,400 to $176,800 annually, plus COLA, performance-based increases, and a comprehensive benefits package.
